 Friendship Haven Retirement Community

The Resident Council 

Membership is comprised of 10 members representing the residents of Friendship Haven. Each member serves for a term of two (2) years and must have been a resident of Friendship Haven for no less than three (3) months. The resident council serves as a form of self-government for the community of Friendship Haven.  

Apartments

       Friendship Haven Retirement Community is a 100 unit, not-for-profit apartment complex located at 2600 West Jefferson Street in Kokomo, Indiana. Made possible through the efforts of are Mennonite Churches, a montage and subsidy from HUD. Applicants must be 62 or older, or needing the specially designed features of altered units. 

       

     Friendship Haven features unfurnished one and two bedroom apartments and ten specially designed apartments.

     

     Each apartment includes: a private bathroom with safety bars, complete kitchen, living-dining area and ample closet space. Apartments are equipped with a refrigerator, electric range, garbage disposal, blinds, carpeting, 

smoke detectors and air conditioners.

 

     Friendship Haven is an equal housing opportunity program. Residents are accepted without regard to religion, race, color, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.

In keeping with its Mennonite heritage and philosophy, Menno Benevolent Association, Inc., (MBA) is committed to maintain a Christian emphasis in all its endeavors. Its is the purpose of MBA to operate a socially and economically sound community which provides affordable decent homes to residents. It is the policy of the MBA and the responsibility of the administrative staff to receive applications, determine eligibility, select residents for continued occupancy, and provide facilities and services to eligible persons according to standards set forth. This is without regard to race, creed, color, gender, handicap, national origin or ancestry in compliance with Title VIII of Civil Rights Act of 1968 and the Indiana Civil Rights Act, except as otherwise stated in prescribed guidelines by law. 

     Two elevators and wide stairways join the two levels of Friendship Haven. Family hair care, library and game room are located on the second floor. The community room, coin operated laundry room, business, maintenance offices are on the first floor.

- Utilities included with rent (telephone & cable excluded) 

     Friendship Haven is located within walking distances of two shopping centers, churches, banks, and a hospital are close by. A Senior Citizens bus service is available to all residents by request.

     Residents have many opportunities to volunteer within the community.
